Humility Prophets, Sikhism and Inequality is Highly Possible
Sri Guru Nanak Sahib was a Prophet of:
- the poor
- the downtrodden
- the outcasts
- the untouchables
- the lepers
Guru Nanak identified with the poor and always helped them. Offerings that Guru Nanak received on his travels were always distributed amongst the poor; or less fortunate.
Nanak is the companion of the lowest of the low and of the condemned lot.
He has nothing in common with the high born.

Preaching Against The Humility and Caste System
During his long journeys, spreading his teachings far and wide; Guru Nanak invariably showered love and grace on the poor; the sick and the lowly.
This greatest Incarnation of Love came to unite the whole global community; in a relationship bonded in pure love.
Guru Nanak lived his beliefs; and this was illustrated in his choice of travelling companions; a low caste Hindu Bhai Bala; as well as a low caste Muslim Bhai Mardana.
Furthermore, Guru Nanak showered infinite grace on those who had gone astray. He was a true champion of the underdog. He transformed murderers, robbers and criminals into saints and gods.
Winning the Ego
According to Guru Nanak there is no place for the Ego; in the realms of Divine Love or Prema Bhagti .
This is why in the House of Guru Nanak one finds Humility reigning supreme. Humility is an important concept in Sikhism and refers to a person who does not believe that they are; in any way; better or more important than another.
All the holy and great events of Guru Nanak’s life speak of three virtues; and these are:
- The victory of Truth over Falsehood
- Humility over false Pride
- Love over Hatred
Humility is the ability to give up your pride and still retain your dignity.
Elaborating once on the fourfold Swaroop of the Lord Guru Nanak, Baba Nand Singh Ji Maharaj clarified:
- Nirankar ; Guru Nanak is the Formless Lord Himself.
- Sakaar ; Guru Nanak also appeared in the Luminous form of Jagat Guru Nanak and fascinates all the worlds.
- Gurbani ; Refers to the ‘word’ of Sikhism holy scripture; the Guru Granth Sahib.
- Nimrata ; Is a virtue vigorously promoted by Gurbani and translates to ‘humility’.
Guru Nanak would conceal His True identity
As a matter of fact, he would be totally clothed, garbed and concealed by his unique and matchless humility. Guru Nanak Sahib was not always recognized by every one. He chose to reveal his true identity to a blessed few.
Ocean of Nectar
Furthermore, in his time on earth; a mere glance, word or touch of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib was enough to redeem; or to save a person. The same holds true even today.
Through Gurbani the most compassionate Lord Guru Nanak reaches out to us with His ‘Glance of Grace’. He mercifully looks at us.
Moreover, his Grace touches the chords of one’s heart through the Holy words (Gurbani); which flows like an Ocean of Nectar from His holy lips.
If we tune our minds and hearts to the nectarous melodies of Gurbani with a live faith in Sri Guru Granth Sahib; we are saved.
In this platter (Holy Book); three holy dishes (delicacies); Truth, Contentment and Divine Wisdom, have been placed and the Nectar of Lord’s Nam; which is the support of all has been put above all else. He who eats and relishes this food will be saved.
This holy food is so precious that it cannot be forsaken; and should be firmly clasped to the heart. Clinging to the Lord’s feet one is ferried across this dark ocean of the world.
A true lover of Sri Guru Granth Sahib remains perpetually intoxicated with the Nectar of the Divine Name, Nectar of Truth, Nectar of Supreme contentment; as well as the Nectar of Divine Wisdom.
Nam feeds contentment. Nam bestows contentment. Contentment is a rare, Divine Peace and Joy. The Nectar of contentment flows uninterrupted from the Divine Name; (Nam Santokhia); from the Holy Gurbani.
To the blessed heart so filled with contentment; the Kingdom and the wealth of the whole world becomes totally insignificant and meaningless.
Gurbani retains the flavour of Eternal Freshness. It can never wane or become stale.
Truth is Eternal
Moreover, Eternal Truths; mystic revelations contained in the sacred hymns of Sri Guru Granth Sahib transmit the same life giving nectar; as the time when they were first uttered by Sri Guru Nanak Sahib directly received from God.
One hymn was sufficient to transform the notorious murderer Sajjan Thag into a saint; a criminal into a god and so on.
But we have to have true faith in Sri Guru Granth Sahib and receive the blessing; and the sacred hymns that come direct from the holy lips of the Lord; we have to actually sit at the Lotus Feet of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the living presence of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib and be blessed.
Nonetheless, a mere glance or look from Sri Guru Nanak Sahib was enough to destroy a person’s ego. It is extremely difficult to understand and explain the true meaning of great mystic revelations (holy hymns). Through the grace and compassion of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib these mysteries; and the precious treasure of divine wisdom and knowledge can be experienced.
Even Kings and Emperors with heaps of wealth; and vast dominion
cannot compare with an ant filled with love.
